Jonathan and David may yet lead the way

“…the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul…and then Jonathan and David made a covenant because he loved him as his own soul…”   1 Samuel 1-3

What does it mean to have your soul knit to another? It my idealized world, it would be wonderful for this scripture to be cited and explained in the context of God-sanctioned same-sex relationships. If you were to write such a text, what would it say? What has already been written on the subject? What needs to be said from a Moho point of view?

Dear Father in Heaven, Just as you blessed David to love Jonathan and his wife as well, you have blessed me with the gift of bisexuality. Thank you for this gift that has provided me with so many blessings throughout my life. Please help me and guide me to use this gift wisely. This I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

  1. I'm surprised no one has commented on this. I definitely believe same-gender friendships of an intimate nature are part of God's plan. I found this quote helpful, from "God Loveth His Children," an LDS church publication.

"Association with those of the same gender is natural and desirable, so long as you set wise boundaries to avoid improper and unhealthy emotional dependency, which may eventually result in physical and sexual intimacy. There is moral risk in having so close a relationship with one friend of the same gender that it may lead to vices the Lord has condemned."

My life is a perfect example of how emotional dependency can lead to moral trouble, so I for one, have to be very careful in making those attachments.

  2. I'm glad you commented. I've been fortunate to have most of my crushes on straight men. I love them and they love me back, but because they're straight, they don't tend to love me in ways that would involve improper intimacy. ;)

When Don't Ask Don't Tell is just a memory, I think it may be that in the military we will see examples of straight and gay men and women working side-by-side, showing brotherly and sisterly affection that is well within the boundaries of propriety. I could be wrong, of course, but that is my hope.
